Apologies for the delay and shortness of the Roundup this week. Let’s get right to it!
What Happened Mid-Week
Swansea City 0 v 2 Manchester United – A perfectly boring and expected match!
Chelsea 2 v 1 Everton – Everton’s new gaffer wasn’t enough to outlast Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Tottenham 2 v 3 West Ham United – An actual shocker as West Ham came from behind to win this match at nearly the death.
RB Leipzig 1 (4) v 1 (5) Bayern Munich – Wasn’t able to watch this match but it looks like it was one helluva match.
Werder Bremen 1 v 0 TSG Hoffenheim – Hoffenheim has higher aspirations than a cup, like top four aspirations!
Aberdeen 0 v 3 Celtic – Ho hum, fuck Brendan Rodgers
Mainz 1 v 1 Eintracht Frankfurt – Friday Night Football in Germany, I demand at least five goals, how dare these teams.
Paris Saint-Germain 3 v 0 Nice – Apparently Neymar is a diva, wow, who would’ve expected that.
What’s On Tap?
Manchester United v Tottenham – Jose vs Pochentino. Two completely different styles. I think we all know how this one ends at Old Trafford.
Liverpool v Huddersfield Town – Klopp v Wagner, besties from Germany now on opposite sides of the touch line! Huddersfield knocked off Man U last week and Liverpool was absolutely thrashed by Spurs and have only won 2 of their last 10 in all competitions. Liverpool desperately needs a win and if they go down or it goes late without a goal, the Kop might turn on the Reds.
Bournemouth v Chelsea – This is an important match for Chelsea if they want to keep pace with the league leaders, but with Roma on the horizon mid-week, it is not inconcievable that the Blues might be overlooking the Cherries.
Bayern Munich v RB Leipzig – These two squads met mid-week in the DFB Pokal Cup, drawing, but Munich winning on penalties. Leipzig definitely needs a win to stay on pace with Bayern and Dortmund.
Atletico Madrid v Villareal – These two teams are separated by just three points in the La Liga table. Atleti sits in fourth and Villareal in sixth. Villareal has actually had Madrid’s number. Atleti hasn’t beaten Villareal since late April in 2015 nearly 30 months ago. Both of these teams need the points to stay within spitting distance of the top four.
AC Milan v Juventus – Before the season started a lot of people had pegged this as one of the early marquee matchups of the Serie A season. Milan stole defender Leonardo Bonucci from Juve in the off-season and spent a couple hundred million dollars. People didn’t expect that Milan would be 12 points clear of the top spot and that Juve would not be that team and instead sits third. Both teams got big wins mid-week and hope that momentum pushes them forward this weekend.
And that’s it. Of course there is soccer on Sunday and Monday, but let’s be fair, all of those games are fairly drab and you are probably gonna be hungover from your Halloween party so sleep in and maybe take it easy on Sunday, mostly because we got some hot Champion’s League action this weekend!
